Stockings for Seniors

Last week we celebrated Thanksgiving, and most of us were surrounded by close family and friends. It was a time to eat, enjoy each other’s company, and be grateful for what we have.

Unfortunately not everyone will have such a happy holiday season surrounded by love. Many of those individuals are seniors who find themselves lonely during the holidays. Maybe the children moved away, the grandchildren find themselves too busy, or their spouses have passed on. Others may not be able to afford a traditional holiday meal. There are many individuals in need, and seniors are not exempt.  Whatever the reason, we encourage you to think about the senior citizens you may know, and whether or not they have anyone to spend the holidays with. A small gesture can mean the world to someone else.

MAS Home Care of Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island would also like to help our seniors this holiday season! For the second year, we will be organizing Stocking for Seniors. Individuals can donate unwrapped gifts to help make a senior’s holiday a little brighter. Some gift suggestions include gift cards, blankets, hats and scarves, and sweaters. Others suggestions are books, puzzles and movies which are greatly enjoyed by many elderly and make nice presents. Monetary donations are also welcome.

If you would like to donate, please drop off, or arrange a pick up, by December 14th. Monetary donations can be made via PayPal by clicking this link. MAS Home Care would also like to hear from you if you know a senior who could benefit from this program. Last year, 175 seniors benefited from these gifts. Hopefully this year that number can be doubled!

Once again, take just a moment over the next few days and weeks to think about the seniors you know. Whether it is thoughtful gift you purchased, or the present of your time, you too can help make someone’s holiday special this year with a simple gesture.
